Here we are in Ireland!

After a 5.5 hour flight to JFK....a 3 hour layover...and another 6.5 hour flight, we landed in Shannon, Ireland...and NO RAIN!!!  Yeah!  We went through immigration and had some excited delegates looking at their first stamp on their passport.  After getting our luggage, off we went to meet Ebba, our adorable delegation manager.  She led us to meet John, our coach driver for Ireland.

Next stop, Bunratty Castle.  Bunratty was built in the 1400s and is in amazing shape.  It has furnishings from the same period of time.  There was a table in one room that was 500 years old and made from one single piece of oak.  The edges were indented from people cleaning their knives on the edges.  Amazing!  There was also a figure set into the wall that legend has, if you rub it, you would be blessed with twins within a year.  40 kids stepped way back!

This is Nick!

This is the figure that legend says...if you rub, you'll be blessed with twins...

From there, we had about an hour and a half or more to explore an adjacent folk park.  There were all sorts of little shops, a tea house, restaurants (where we had lunch), along with some turkeys and chickens.

By the time our day at Bunratty was complete, we had 40 exhausted delegates...and 4 exhausted leaders!  We had a 3 hour bus ride to Caheverseen.  I know I was excited to see the beautiful green, lush, Irish countryside...instead, our bus driver had a very quiet drive with 44 sleeping Americans!

We went to a high school where we had a presentation on the history of Caheverseen and a littel bit more about Ireland.

This is 1.53 EURO per LITER...  1.53 euro is probably about $2.25...and multiply that by 4...gives you the price per gallon of gas in Europe!

Do any of you remember seeing this man playing?

Dinner was served...mashed potatoes topped with a type of fish stew, mixed veggies, bread, and some chocolate cake with whipped cream for dessert.

Everyone is now settled down in their guest homes...I'm sure there will be some deep sleeping tonight!

It's the end of Day 1!
